Vodotočnik is a high mountain lake with a characteristic heart shape. Livestock graze along it in the summer months, giving the landscape an idyllic appearance. The lake was formed naturally and is one of the few bodies of water in this part of the Alps, as the limestone soil composition is characterized by rapid water seepage.
Several trails lead to Vodotočnik, suitable for different levels of hiker experience. One of the popular trails leads from the Podvežak mountain, which is about an hour and 45 minutes of walking along a marked trail. Another option is to climb from the Podvolovjek valley, which takes hikers past the Korošica mountain and Moličke peč.
Vodotočnik is important not only for its natural beauty, but also for its ecological importance. The preservation of high mountain lakes is key to biodiversity, as they provide a habitat for numerous plant and animal species. In addition, the area is popular with hikers who value peace and untouched nature.
